The Ministry of Agriculture and Lands, Fisheries and Cooperatives today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with neighbouring St. Vincent and the Grenadines; expected to provide what’s envisioned as significant returns for the agricultural sector.
The signing took place on the sidelines of the 7th OECS Agriculture Council of Minister’s Meeting here in Grenada.
It’s being described as an historic development that will see the diversification of agricultural industries in the two countries.
Saboto Caesar, the Vincentian Minister for Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Rural Transformation, Industry and Labour.
He signed the Memorandum of Understanding this morning with Grenada’s Minister for Agriculture and Lands, Fisheries and Cooperatives, Adrian Thomas.
Both Ministries have been engaged in dialogue over the past few months, over strategic interventions that will continue to diversify the regional agricultural sector.
Minister Thomas is hopeful that the MOU will help Grenada reduce their food import bill and have more local consumption and sustainable export.
He sees the signing as a step in the right direction for both countries.

OECS Director General, Dr. Didacus Jules, who witnessed the signing, believes the agreement will ensure citizens of the region are custodians of their own food security.
The main feature of the agreement deals with the issue of the establishment of a cocoa condiments and spices sub-sector in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the assistance with livestock and root crops for Grenada.
