The Grenada Coast Guard is offering some advice to boat owners and operators as it relates to safety at sea, especially around this time when carnival activities on the sister isles are heightened.

Carnival Season usually offers party lovers the opportunity to indulge in some extra fun but safety must be a number one priority.

Crews who are considering a party at sea, are reminded it is their responsibility to ensure that the vessel is properly prepared to operate.

February 20 and 21 is reserved as carnival Monday and Tuesday on the sister isles and individuals from the mainland will be making their way up from this weekend.

Speaking on Wee fm’s midmorning programme with Michael Hutchison, Cpl 360 Ken Joseph, Officer attached to the Coast Guard Unit, speaks to the Do’s in relation to the sea.

Joseph says boat-owners must know the capacity of their boats and should not carry more weight than that which it’s registered for.

Cpl Joseph implores upon boat owners to have enough lifejackets on their boats to accommodate individuals.
