GRENADA’S DATA PROTECTION BILL TO GO BEFORE THE SENATE NEXT WEEK

0

Grenada’s Data Protection Bill, which was passed in the House of Representatives on the 14th of this month, will be debated in the Senate on Wednesday next week.

In the Lower House, debate on the Bill, before it was initially approved took MP’s five-and-a-half hours.

Government Parliamentarians pressed ahead while Opposition MP’s called for the Bill to be taken to public consultation.

The argument was put forward that there are tenets that infringe on constitutional freedoms.

The Bill, however, was passed with a vote of 9-5.

On the basis of its importance the Grenada Bar Association discussed the legislation this week, indicating that there are sections that need to be reviewed.

The Bar Association is to prepare their findings to present to the Attorney General.

The general view is that next Wednesday’s debate on the bill will be intense.
