Grenada’s Health Authorities have gone into a COVID contact tracing and testing mode, in view of what the Ministry of Health sees as a sudden spike in infections.
REPORT:
Grenada is considering today’s COVID situation as very serious, the worst outbreak of the coronavirus here since it made its way to our shores back in March this year.
The Ministry of Health yesterday made the announcement that there are several new positive cases, with the total at the time spiking to 71, and the results of several other tests pending.
Prior to this, it did appear things were a bit under control, with the clear identification of the sporadic one or two positive cases resulting.
The additional cases as announced lately falls within what described as a cluster originating from the inclusive Sandals Grenada Hotel Resort.
It has driven cause for concern and we hear that an entire family of 13, associated with a Sandals employee who tested COVID positive, have also been infected with the virus, and are currently in quarantine.
Of the amount of new cases are guests and employees, as well as their contacts, and with the festive season in the air, health authorities are vigilantly on the look-out.
While advising the public not to panic, the announcement drove a scare that a COVID community spread seems to be threatening.
It’s expected in the coming days there could be more infections and there’s been a COVID Committee-to-public appeal for all to be on their guard, remembering the stipulated protocols and guidelines, moreso limiting all social gatherings.
