The Grenada House of Representatives passed a motion at a meeting today extending the State of Emergency, enacted in the country’s fight against the coronavirus.

It is now set to be extended to November 20, this year, when its approved period currently in force ends on July 14.

The State of Emergency was invoked in the second quarter of last year, instituting measures geared at protecting the Nation and its people in the face of the deadly coronavirus.

In presenting the motion for the further extension today, the Leader of Government Business in the House, Gregory Bowen, believes generally that the pandemic is not yet over and with the successes in keeping it at bay thus far, the country still needs to be on guard.

Bowen makes reference to Grenada taking rear-guard action in protecting the country.

Opposition Leader, Tobias Clement, noted his support for action that deem to protect the health and well-being of the country but had issues relating to the closure of coconut beach in breach of COVID protocols where the authority didn’t seem to have the necessary backing.
