Prime Minister, Dr. The Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell, says he’s keen to see Caribbean countries forge ahead with their respective National Population and Housing Census, despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He justifies that economies will be crippled without critical statistical information, needed to navigate through and out of the social and economic impacts of the pandemic.

Grenada had delayed the census due to the spike of the Coronavirus here but it will now begin on the 1st of next month.

The Population and Housing Census is said to be the most important source of statistical data as the information captured can be presented at the lowest geographical level for both population and households.

Dr. Mitchell says it’s imperative that we collect the data that will allow authorities to assess the magnitude of the impact of COVID-19 and climate change occurrences, to better plan for the future, and to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and successfully implement respective National Sustainable Development Plans.

The Prime Minister also voiced support for the regionally-coordinated approach to census taking.
