The Grenada Community Development Agency (GRENCODA) together with the Gouyave Fishermen Cooperative Society Ltd has launched a project seeking to expand the Gouyave Marine Protected Area (MPA).

The project will combine proactive and rehabilitative approaches through ecosystems’-based adaptation measures.

The expansion of the MPA paired with eco-rehabilitation and personnel training will together increase protection for marine and terrestrial species.

GRENCODA’s Manager, Ian Roberts, says as a fishing community, Gouyave provides the ideal location for the project.

One member of the fisheries division shared his sentiments about the project.

The Headquarters for the Marine Protected Area will be constructed at Upper Depradine Street in Gouyave.

MP for the area, Alvin Dabreo, expresses thanks to all stakeholders of the project.
