The Grenada Electricity Services Ltd (GRENLEC) is urging kite flyers to exercise caution during this Easter season, reminding them that kites entangled with power lines can lead to power outages.
In protecting oneself from injury, GRENLEC is advising individuals to fly their kite where they can control them, and, away from power lines.
This is also because a kite or kite string that contacts a line can conduct electricity to the kite flyer and result in serious injury or death.
System Control Operator at GRENLEC,Marvin Antoine, emphasizes the importance of flying kites away from power lines for safety reasons.
For safety, Grenlec says if kites accidentally get caught in or near power lines, release the string at once and call Grenlec at 237 to report the incident.
NEVER attempt to retrieve a kite caught in a power line as it is unsafe.
