The Inter Agency Group of Development Organizations (I-AG-DO) extends their condolences on the passing of Madonna Harford, a one-time President of the Grenada Trades Union Council and Public Workers Union.

In a statement in this regard, I-AG-DO salutes Ms. Harford for the work she conducted in the Labour movement and with civil society and non-state actors in the development of a Code of Political Conduct to guide election campaigns.

It remembers the role Ms. Harford played as part of

the Civil Society Organization CSO/non state actors’ delegations which held several meetings with representatives of major political parties and the Royal Grenada Police Force in an effort to diffuse the great tensions that prevailed and concerns about possible clashes, in respect of final Sunday motorcades and rallies, prior to election day in 2008.

I-AG-DO says Ms. Harford was a public servant par excellence who served with professionalism, integrity and great helpfulness to the ordinary citizen.

It salutes her contributions to national development in the various public service positions she occupied and within the labour movement.

Mrs. Harford died last Friday in Germany, where she was receiving medical care.

She was age 68.
