On Wednesday 19th March 2023, Hon. Andy Williams led a team comprising staff of the Ministry of Mobilisation, Implementation and Transformation, the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Ministry of Health on a walk-through and assessment of the St. George’s Market Square and the Grenville Market.

The purpose of the assessments was to identify operational, infrastructural, and environmental health challenges experienced by the management and vendors of both Markets to inform decision-making and expedite Government action.

At both markets vendors and pedestrians alike expressed their discomfort with the sidewalk vending. At St. George’s, the desire to have the ceremonial opening of the renovated Market and the need for a more thorough sanitation service for the market were raised. In Grenville, similar concerns which expressed the need for updated management operations were highlighted.

The Government is committed to ensuring that the necessary actions are taken for improved public health and safety and an enjoyable market experience at both the St. George’s and Grenville markets.

Moving forward it is the intention of the Government to continue to engage market vendors as well as address critical issues in all markets across Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique in the promotion of a one market, standardized quality experience for all stakeholders.
