St. George’s — At the first General Council of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) held after the election of March 13, 2018, Joseph Andall, the Deputy Political Leader, was named Interim Leader following the resignation of Party Leader V. Nazim Burke, who resigned with immediate effect moments earlier.
Andall’s appointment was made through a resolution which was unanimously passed by the delegates. He will lead the party in the process of preparing for its next convention when a new party leader will be elected.
Party Chairman, Vincent Roberts, expressed thanks and appreciation for the service of former leader V. Nazim Burke to the party and country, and speaking of Joseph Andall, said, “he Is an individual of great intelligence, vision and integrity who has, over the years, displayed both his dedication to NDC and his commitment to the development of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. He is the perfect choice to lead the party in its search for a new leader.”
Joseph Andall was the NDC candidate for St. Patrick West in the last general election.
The text of the resolution appointing him as Interim Leader follows:
RESOLUTION TO APPOINT INTERIM POLITICAL LEADER
WHEREAS: the Constitution of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) makes provision for there to be a Political Leader of the Party;
AND WHEREAS: our political leader, V. Nazim Burke, has this day tendered his resignation as Political Leader with immediate effect and it would be necessary to elect a person to fill the vacant position of Political Leader at an appropriate time;
AND WHEREAS: it is the collective sentiment of the Delegates at this General Council that some time is needed to allow the Party to adequately explore its leadership options;
AND WHEREAS: in the meantime, however, it is necessary to have a person assume the responsibilities of party leader while preparations are being made to elect a Political leader;
BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
- Joseph Andall, the Deputy Political Leader, be, and is hereby appointed as Interim Leader of the National Democratic Congress with effect from Today, the 1st day of July 2018.
- In his capacity as Interim Leader, the said Joseph Andall will assume the responsibilities of Political Leader while preparations are being made to elect a Political leader.
- The said Joseph Andall be charged, and is hereby charged with the responsibility to prepare the party for a convention to elect a person to fill the position of Political Leader.
- That the said Convention to fill the Position of Political Leader be held no later than March 31st 2019. Considered and Passed at the Grenada Trade Centre Annex, Grand Anse, St. George’s this 1st day of July, 2018
