Reports from Lester Smith in the sporting circle indicate that Kevon Charles and Lean Dowden are the boys and girls National Youth Table Tennis champions.
They emerged bat the top of their game in the recent Kent Joseph-sponsored tournament, which attracted some 50 players.
The Tournament got in real flight when Azim Noel came up against the number one seed Kevon Charles in the Boys Semi Finals following the Preliminary Round of Competition.
Charles won comfortably in straight sets: 11-3; 11-8; 11-8 in the best of five.
The other Semi Final featured Sherman Williams against Ikolo.
Sherman booked his place into the final winning: 11-3; 11-7; 11-7.
In the Girls Division, top favorite Lean Dowden overcame a strong challenge from Sukanye Patterson to win in straight sets in the first Semi Final.
Then, it was Lean Baptiste, a student for the St. Andrew Anglican Secondary defeating Nabrusha Swan from St. Mark Secondary: 11-9; 11-6; 11-8.
In the final, Lean Dowden proved superior beating Lean Baptiste 11-6; 11-5; 11-2 over rival Lean Baptiste.
Over in the Boys Division, in what might be considered a highly keen competitive match, Kevon Charles again retained his title as the number one (1) Seed and National Junior Table Tennis Champion.
He fought off a challenge posed by Sherman Williams.
Both Charles and Dowden will be awarded at the Grenada Olympic Committee Annual Awards early next year.
