After 8 months of consultation regarding the increase in minimum wage, the Grenada government has unveiled its schedule of new rates, as it relates to the many sectors in the work force.

In the new order to take effect January 1, there’ll be minimum wages across all sectors that are currently in the legislation and there’ll be some new sectors, according to Attorney General, Senator Claudette Joseph.

Under the new minimum wage order, Senator Joseph is urging employees to give a fair day’s work for a fair day’s pay.

She went further to state, though, that the minimum wage is the rate below which an employer cannot pay an employee, otherwise the employer will be in breach of the law.

The Attorney general says the minimum wage order doesn’t necessarily mean that “the employer is to pay barely the minimum wage.
