Minister with Responsibility for Culture, Ron Redhead, said it will help to lead the development of pan throughout the State, which is one of Government’s committed focus areas.

President of the Steelband Association, Victor Ashby, described the signing as historic and a “red Letter” moment, since it has come three months after pan was defined as a World Instrument.

Mr. Ashby said the Association is grateful and ready

to execute the Memorandum of Understanding which contains four major deliverables, expected to be implemented by November 2025.

It’s also to preserve, consolidate and develop all bands registered with the Grenada Steelband Association for their continued progression on quality of performance and extension of membership.

The idea is to have one structured and functional performing band in each parish, as well as Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

The document also includes training, promotion and educational opportunities for all involved in pan.

The bodies see the Memorandum as creating harmony through their partnership between that would establish inter-generational connections to improve leadership and the further development of the steelpan.
