The third round of training for beneficiaries of Tissue Culture Banana Plants continued this week.
This programme for banana farmers was launched last year with the aim of resuscitating the Industry.
Following up on work done under the pilot project, and understanding the progress made to date as it relates to benefits to the farmers, the Ministry of Agriculture continues the knowledge sharing and learning exchange.
At the demonstration plot at the Mirabeau Propagating Station, farmers and field officers shared their experiences.

14 of the established tissue culture plots are said to be fruiting, with three farmers now harvesting significant quantities from their field.
Additionally, there are reports that one of the farmers this week harvested more than 100 boxes of the improved varieties of banana and sold them to the MNIB.

Also participating in the training was Agriculture Minister Peter David, who underscored the banana industry as a priority sector, which will drive food and nutrition security.
This project forms part of the Government of Grenada’s COVID-19 Response and Mitigation Plan, for the Agricultural sector.
