Word reaching our news desk is that MNIB workers will no longer have a job as at the end of this month.
Information in this regard was brought to the attention of the MNIB staff representatives and Union at a special meeting this morning with Prime Minister, Dickon Mitchell.
The MNIB scenario has been one of intense discussion over the past weeks, with the government taking the matter pertaining to the viability of the institution to widespread consultation with the Nation’s farmers, at which several options were presented.
The Prime Minister delivered the news that the workers will be out of a job at the end of February.
At the consultations, Prime Minister Mitchell indicated that the MNIB has a heavy debt burden and among other things, it was not able to pay its staff, whereby the Government took up the tab.
At the consultations, Prime Minister did provide several options to be open for discussion.
Prime Minister Mitchell had outlined to the consultations another option of shutting MNIB down and to start afresh.
Well, it has not yet been officially made public as to what option the Government has decided to adopt in salvaging the operations of the marketing institution.
With the announcement heard by Union and staff today, informed sources say workers appear shattered by the news.
