Creating better gender relations between men and women was the focus of a webinar that was held last week on the occasion of International Men’s Day.
Amílcar Peter Sanatan a Trinidadian PhD candidate in Cultural Studies at the University of West Indies delivered the keynote address during what was termed the “Man in the Mirror” webinar focusing on masculinity and gender based violence.
His research interests include men and masculinity in the Caribbean and Latin America, youth and student development, urban planning and cultural geography.
He stated that men have an important part to play in the eradication of gender based violence in the Caribbean.
Sanatan said more emphasis must be placed on gender transformative approaches through programmes targeting boys and men.
