The man allegedly accused of the killing of a Pearls, St. Andrew, resident last Saturday appeared in court today.
27-year-old Kelly Daniel made his first court appearance at the Grenville Magistrate’s Court, without any legal representation.
He’s charged with non-capital murder for the gruesome killing of 79-year-old John Merchant.
Daniel is remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.
The charge, which is indictable, was read out to him by presiding Magistrate, Nevlyn John.
Curious onlookers gathered this morning to get a glimpse of the scene, which was under tight police surveillance.
The killing last Saturday, has been described as gruesome.
It’s the first homicide here for 2022.

It was revealed that he had a mental disposition.
Several residents from the Pearls community were also at the courthouse today, seeking to get a glimpse of the man, who they noted was a humble and generous individual.
Kelly Daniel is to make another court appearance on the 7th of next month.
