Here at home, the Media Workers Association of Grenada joins the global bandwagon in observing “World Press Freedom Day” which has as its theme “Information as a Public Good”.
MWAG speaks of its affiliates strengthening their craft, reaffirming the importance of credible information as a public good.

MWAG sees World Press Freedom Day as a worthwhile feature for practitioners where they can reflect on the profession and whether it’s executed for the benefit of the society.
MWAG also speaks of the occasion as an avenue to emulate the work of the media and also to recognize and pay tribute to journalists for their efforts and challenges in carrying out their duties.
In its statement on World Press Freedom Day, MWAG says despite the day-to-day challenges, the theme reiterates the fundamentals that need to be taken into consideration daily, as to the quality of the work presented to the general public which depends heavily on the members of the fourth estate for accurate and balanced information that will help bring clarity to issues and situations.
The present economic and industrial climate in Grenada coupled with the many prolonged protocols as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, MWAG says are areas that can trigger thought processes in taking the profession seriously, seeking out credible information, critically important to the public.
The organization’s President, Shere Ann Noel spoke of the moral responsibility attached to the profession which provides the impetus for practitioners to perform.
She sees the COVID-19 period as one that necessitates the adoption of what’s regarded as the new normal, and, in the circumstances, journalists have made considerable strides.
According to her, in particular, “Most of our Newspapers are now online as we have used the challenges brought on by the virus to become a more tech-savvy industry.”
