Over 60,000 plants are expected to be sold to farmers and members of the public during the upcoming 2023 Plant Distribution Season.

This is according to a release from the Ministry of Agriculture, which says there’ll be a ceremony this Thursday marking the season officially open and sale of plants to farmers will begin at the end of the month.

Farmers and members of the public will be afforded the opportunity to purchase what the Ministry terms high-quality, subsidized planting materials.

A great deal of emphasis is being placed on improving Grenada’s production of spices, and a matter of attracting the external market, as we hear from Supervisor of Propagation, Nigel Gibbs.

Gibbs is encouraging farmers and members of the public to follow the necessary guidelines as it relates to removing the polyethylene bags prior to transplanting.

Sale of plants to farmers with application will be from July 31 to 11th August.

Farmers in this regard are encouraged to look out for a call from the Ministry, inviting them to visit the stations to purchase plants.

Sale of plants to the general public will be from August 8.

Plants will be sold from Government propagation stations at Mirabeau, Boulogne, Ashenden and Maran.
