Word officially reaching us is that the police shooting of 5th July this year of one-time national footballer,
Jamol Charles, in Gouyave, St. John, which had sparked outrage within the community, is considered justified.
Protestors had blocked the main road and burned debris, prompting a heavy police presence.
The findings of the investigation which was launched by the Police were sent to the DPP for his determination on the matter, as it concerns whether charges should be laid.
The DPP is said to be satisfied that the Police action was justifiable, and will lay no charges against the officer.
What transpired that provoked the shooting has still not yet been fully explained, except that we hear of verbal attacks, physical assault and threats.
Hours after the incident, the lawyer for the Charles family, Jerry Edwin, had said that the Police wanted to enter the home of Jamol and there was some contention there.
Edwin told reporters he would be on top of the case every step of the way.
Wee FM News spoke with Head of the RGPF Community Relations Department, Superintendent Vannie Curwen, pertaining to the investigations, which he said was thorough.
Edwin says he’s seeking to have the findings of the police investigation and the process under which it was carried out.
However, Superintendent Curwen refutes Edwin’s statement saying that the Police Commissioner gave no such commitment.
