Boat-builders on the Sister Isles are desirous of developing standards in the traditional area of the sector.
We hear that some 13 boat-builders attended a workshop and consultation recently in this regard.
It was organized by the National Training Agency (NTA).
The standards developed will then be used to certify practitioners of the trade with CVQ’s and NVQ’s qualification.
National Training Agency Standards and Planning Coordinator, Roderick Griffith, says the NTA is fully aware of the high level of experience in the area of Traditional Boat Building on the sister-isles and they ought not to let it fade away.
He added that tapping in on the wealth of knowledge and experience of the boat builders is not only in the effort for certification, but also for documentation to convert to international standards.
