Grenada remembers Mrs. Beverley Steele who, it’s been brought to our knowledge, has gone to the Great Beyond.
Word has reached us that she died recently.
Born in Jamaica, Beverley Steele was a Senior Lecturer at the University of the West Indies and was for long years a resident tutor and Head of the University of the West Indies Outreach Center in Grenada.
She also served as Honorary Consul for Jamaica in Grenada for many years.
Condolences continue pouring into family and friends on her passing.
Beverly Steele, who’s also an historian, has written several books relative to Grenada’s history, including “How Grenada Won World War Two” and “ Marryshow House – A Living Legacy”, giving a vivid account of the pursuits of renowned Grenadian, Theophilus Albert Marryshow, the Father of West Indian Federation.
She’s also remembered as a vanguard advocating for a monument on account of the sinking of the Grenada freighter, the “Island Queen” which was torpedoed during the wartime.
This monument now stands on the Carenage, known as the “Christ of the Deep”
