With senate debate on the 2021 Budget continuing, Opposition Senator, Terry Noel, is questioning the Government’s intention to go on a strong drive in the New Year to collect arrears in taxes.

This was outlined in the Budget presentation by Finance Minister, Gregory Bowen on Budget Day Wednesday 2nd December 2020.

He did indicate revenue measures relative to collecting agencies continuing efforts to improve the administration and collection of revenue, to not only ensure that people all pay their fair share, but to ensure improved taxpayer experience.

Senator Noel went about searching for clarification as to the wisdom in introducing the arrears collection mechanism.

He was speaking today, day 2 of the Senate debate.

Noel subscribes to the fact that any economy that’s fiscally challenged, the respective Government is expected to be creative, proactive and flexible in devising revenue measures.
