THE NATION’S LOWER HOUSE of Parliament, in session today, reviewed what’s been labeled “Jumper’s Jouvert and Jab Jab revelry” over the past few days, which defied state policy of the cancellation of the annual carnival.

The cancellation was a decision in Grenada’s quest to avoid any community outbreak of COVID-19.

However, in several pockets around the country, citizens could be seen masquerading, and failing to observe COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

The situation, which, by all reports, attracted a more youthful citizenry, was noted as being scary.

Making his presentation at the meeting of the House of Representatives this morning, Prime Minister, Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell, under whose portfolio National Security falls, says he’s very concerned about the behavior of the nation’s citizens.

Speaking about the events in recent days, which he deemed as unfortunate, Dr. Mitchell warned that the current global climate is no joke!.

He also went on to say the fundamental law was broken and the intention of some was very negative.

Responding to the negative criticisms of the lawmen’s actions, Dr. Mitchell believes the RGPF could have been heavy-handed in their actions, but that was not the case…they showed restraint.

Rather, he chided individuals who recently condemned the bill to be tabled in parliament that spoke of police reactions to citizen’s misconduct in society, without considering the seriousness of COVID-19.
