Grenada continues its outreach to friendly countries, seeking assistance in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prime Minister, Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell says the rising number of cases has created a strain on the healthcare system and has also resulted in nurses, doctors and other healthcare workers, having to hold extended shifts.
The island’s most pressing needs include additional medical personnel, a field hospital, personal protective equipment and other medical supplies, used in the care of COVID-19 patients.
On this score, Dr. Mitchell is said to have met recently with the Chinese Ambassador to Grenada, His Excellency Wei Hongtian, indicating that “The situation is serious, we need a team of doctors and nurses who can come to Grenada for a few weeks to provide much-needed support.
The Prime Minister also had a call with the United States Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Linda Taglia-latela, and, in that conversation, the Grenadian leader underscored the urgency of a field hospital.
Both the People’s Republic of China and the United States have given assurances they would provide whatever assistance they can, to help Grenada navigate the current crisis.
The Prime Minister will make a virtual media appearance tomorrow, in conversation with the Diaspora.
It will be broadcasted on three radio stations in New York.
He will be dealing with the current COVID situation and ways Nationals in the Diaspora can help in the fight against the virus here.
Dr. Mitchell says he recognizes the role of everyone in helping to fight the virus here.
Dr. Mitchell says hats off to the community health nurses and all other frontline staff for the sacrifices they are making.
He made a brief stop this morning at the Government’s Post Cab News Briefing.
