Grenadian Leader, Dr. Keith Mitchell, says there’s been no discussion in Government circles about privatizing the Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA).

Dr. Mitchell made the point in a media engagement today.

The subject of MBIA privatization came up on the basis of widespread debate on the issue, since the suggestion was thrown out at a function by Egyptian investor, Naguib Sawiris, owner of Silver Sands Hotel.

With the debate raging, especially on social media, Dr. Mitchell went further to explain that privatization of airports, while it’s a common occurrence, there’s been no discussion in his Government about the MBIA in that circle.

Dr. Mitchell lashed out at persons propagating the issue and generating criticism against the Government in that regard.

He labels such actions as “malicious”.

The airport privatization statement issue, promulgated by Sawiris, was among many the Prime Minister addressed in his discourse this morning.

Dr. Mitchell also touched on the 4% salary increase issue, where the Grenada Union of Teachers (GUT) has been expressing disgust over the matter, with protest marches previously and a sick out industrial action earlier this week.

He commended the public officers for their understanding and recommits the Government’s intention to make payment, which it has found difficulty in meeting its obligation at this time.

Responding to criticism that the Government is deliberately not paying the money now, Dr. Mitchell had this to say.
