This was the mood in the Town of St. George this morning as the nation’s Public Service Unions took to the streets again in protest over their 4% salary increase.
The Leaders of the various unions, the PWU, GUT and TAWU were present.
The march came on the eve of May 1, that usually marks Labour Day activities.
It was like a replica of May Day celebrations, with labour issues taking the forefront…this time 4% salary increase being the major talking point.
The protest march culminated at the Stadium.
Prior to the engagement, we understand that the Labour Commissioner had submitted a letter to the Unions, recommending that the matter be sent to mediation.
The Head of the Grenada Union of Teachers scoffed at the correspondence.

Head of the TUC, André Lewis, the President General of the Technical and Allied Workers Union accuses the government of having its priorities wrong, indicating the view of economic experts that the government can pay.
Lewis further insists the government has the money to pay the 4% salary increase.

The Grenada Government has indicated that COVID-19 has dealt a major blow to its revenues and asked the Unions for more time, since the pay to pay the increase is not available.
Prime Minister, Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell, in another in the series of engagements with the media fraternity yesterday, spoke on the matter.
