Republic Bank workers not backing down and are on the picket line again today, claiming the need for a settlement to salary negotiations.

The workers’ action is into its fifth day.

The bank, issuing a statement on the matter noted that it was awaiting the written response by the Labor Minister, following mediation talks with both entities in January this year,  (Republic Bank (Grenada) Limited and the Bank and General Workers’ Union), over a breakdown in negotiations for a new Collective Agreement for the period commencing January 1, 2020.

The Bank says on Thursday 29th June 2023, it received notice from the Union of the commencement of strike action by their unionized staff at a time when both parties were awaiting the written Findings and Recommendations of the Labor Minister…this which the bank says it received on Monday this week and is being reviewed at this time.

In the intervening period, the Bank goes on to state that it will exercise its right to not pay or compensate any worker for any time not spent in the performance of his or her duties since June 28, 2023.

It goes further to indicate that it’s looking forward to arriving at an amicable solution to the negotiations and related matters in the mutual interest of all stakeholders.

The bank takes the opportunity to recognize and thank those members of staff who have been reporting for work and diligently ensuring that they maintain service to customers and communities since the commencement of strike action.
