It has been brought to our news desk that Retired US Army Veteran, Barry Gary Nicholas, of Dr. Grooms, St. George, has been arrested and faces four charges related to firearms.
They were said to have been discovered last Friday in a container at the Port.
Officers attached to the criminal investigation department were called in.
Among the items discovered was 2 Glock 19 pistol; 1 SR/25 stoner Rifle, 1 AR-15 Rifle and 1,894 rounds of ammunition.
He is charged with possession of firearms and ammunitions and importation of firearms and ammunitions.
The matter is currently assigned for the magistrates’ court for preliminary investigation.
If at the end it’s found to be a summary offence, and is adjudged guilty, Barry Nicholas could likely face a penalty between four and twenty thousand dollars fine and imprisonment between two and five years.
Should the matter be determined to be an indictable offence, it will be taken to the high court where, if found guilty, Nicholas could face a fine of twenty thousand to sixty thousand dollars and between five and twenty years in prison for the charges independently.
Barry Nicholas is currently placed on bail to the tune of twenty thousand dollars with two sureties.
He’s to make his first appearance in Court on the 21st of next month.
