A number of fisher folk from the St. Andrew and St. David area have received their Level II Captain’s Permit.
This, after spending one week training in critical areas, including rules of the road, coastal navigation, seamanship and boat-handling, safety at sea, search and rescue, and the effective use of GPS.
It all part of a Safety at Sea training, one of the activities that’s executed under the project ‘Practical Climate Change Adaptation in Fisheries Interventions in Grenada’, hailed as one which will strengthen the capacity of fishermen and contribute to further transformation of the industry.
Minister for Economic Development, Hon. Lennox Andrew explained that the necessary modules taught to participants throughout the island during trainings are perceived to contribute to real results for the industry.
Minister of State with responsibility for Agriculture and Lands, Fisheries and Cooperatives, Senator Adrian Thomas, who was also part of the exercise, encouraged participants to take the industry seriously.
