Information circulating is that the Sandals resort here is to close and reopen early February next year.

The resort has been in the chain of contention in view of the latest COVID outbreak.

REPORT:

The Sandals Resort was deemed to be a place of screening and assessment.

In making the announcement of the spike in COVID positive cases, Health Minister, Nickolas Steele, noted they had ordered the all-Inclusive hotel to move their guests off the island as quickly as possible and to divert all other expected arrivals to other hotels in other countries.

He noted further that an investigation would take place to determine how the virus was able to spread at the establishment.

The Minister of Health says they’ll seek to find out if the outbreak at Sandals was as a result of breaches of COVID-19 regulations or a “flaw” in the protocols.

Head of Sandals, Adam Stewart, according to reports, noted “there’s no clarity about whether the current Grenada outbreak originated at the hotel.

He says the source is not yet known and they’re fully supporting the contact tracing and fact-finding efforts, which are ongoing, to try to identify a source as well as any key learnings available from the situation. Petra Louison, Wee FM News.
