December 13 is the tentative date set when lawmakers in the Upper Parliamentary Chamber, namely the Senate, will begin debate of the 2022 Grenada Budget.

The package was presented by Finance Minister, Gregory Bowen on November 26, which set the tone for the country’s economic recovery, in view of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Representing several economic interests, including labour, business and agriculture, Senators will give their views on the 2022 Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure, which according to Bowen, also took into consideration health, agriculture, tourism, youth and entrepreneurship, the renewable energy sector and digitization as key areas in the mode of transformation.

The Senate is occupied by 13 members, including 6 government representatives, 3 appointed by the Opposition Leader, 3 stakeholder representatives and the President, Chester Humphrey, who guides the proceedings.
