Grenada today experienced a severe degree of persistent rains along the northern, western and eastern corridors which created numerous pockets of flooding and landslides, causing a serious level of inconvenience for commuters.
Several videos of the conditions kept circulating contagiously on social media, showing extent of the flooding and blockages.
In the Moyah area in St. Andrew and Madey’s in St. Patrick, we noticed a mad rush of flood waters from the rivers breaking their banks onto the main roadway.
As it relates to the situation we relied very much on the expertise of Met Office Forecaster, Trisha Miller, who outlined the nature of the forecast.
In view of the conditions, the Royal Grenada Police Force issued notice to the general public, and in particular motorists, saying that due to heavy rainfall overnight and into this morning, several areas of the parishes of St. Patrick and St. Mark have been severely affected.
It’s release stated that Extensive floodings, landslides and fallen trees have resulted in blockage of roads in River Sallee, (in the vicinity of the boiling spring), Lower Marli, Coconut Row, Snell Hall (close to the SDA church) and “the Crusher” in Waltham, St. Mark.
Until they are cleared and safe, the RGPF warned, the public shouldexercise caution to avoid those areas and any other area which is affected or likely to be affected.
Motorists were advised to use alternative routes to access their destinations.
Speaking with NaDMA Coordinator, Dr. Terrence Walters, today, it’s understood that crews responded promptly and were out ensuring residents in affected areas were safe.
