The National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) advises, that an Upper level trough is affecting the northern Windward Islands which is producing widespread cloudiness and thunder showers. The northerly and easterly parts of Grenada are affected by this weather system which is producing heavy rains.
NaDMA has been in contact with the District Coordinators of St. Andrew, St. Patrick and Carriacou. Preliminary reports have been received of heavy rainfall which resulted in flooding in some areas.
Residents and commuters in the parishes of St. Andrew and St. Patrick are advised to observe the following precautionary measures:
- Avoid areas that are subject to flash flooding.
- Don’t attempt to cross rivers or flowing streams where water is above the knees;
- If driving, don’t attempt to cross rivers, flowing streams or flash floods where water is – or may be — deeper than six inches;
- Beware of water-covered roads and bridges;
- For Livestock protection: Please note that Animals can swim well. DO NOT leave them tied, or in confined areas or pens.
According to the Meteorological Office at the Maurice Bishop International Airport gradual improvement of this system is expected as the day progresses.
NaDMA will continue to monitor the situation and provide any updates that are necessary and urge the population to continue to be vigilant and pay keen attention to bulletins provided.
