A solar lighting company has made a contribution to the people of Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
Classique Caribbean Lighting, a Grenada-based company owned and operated by Kayak-born Ricky Bedeau, presented Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Hon. Tevin Andrews, with different solar lights to be utilized by the Ministry.
In accepting the donation, Minister Andrews noted that this type of public-private partnership augurs well for the development of Carriacou and Petite Martinique. He commended Classique Caribbean Lighting for taking the lead in solar lighting, which will help in the reduction of electricity billing costs.
One of the solar street lights will be placed on the Petite Martinique Jetty. Although in need of repairs, the jetty is utilized by the fishermen of Petite Martinique and other members of the public, while Government seeks to arrange a proper management structure and rehabilitation work with the Grenada Ports Authority.
Two (2) of the lights will be placed on the Top Hill Senior Citizens Home, the lone senior citizens’ institution on the island.
Classique Caribbean Lighting recently staged a solar expo in Carriacou, the first of its kind to be held there.
