A Two-Day Technical workshop got underway in St. Lucia today for representatives of Grenada and other OECS Member States, as it relates to tackling disaster displacement and environmental migration in the region.

The key focus will be mainstreaming the human security approach.

The workshop is geared at finding more effective approaches to address challenges while centering attention of policy makers on the complex effects of human security.

As the region braces itself for the future effects of climate change, the workshop is seen as a crucial step towards safeguarding the well-being of the Eastern Caribbean communities.

The OECS’ innovative and collaborative approach to addressing climate-induced displacement and environmental migration will be closely watched by experts and policymakers across the globe.

The workshop, which runs through to tomorrow, is hosted by the International Organization for Migration, in partnership with the UN Trust Fund for Human Security.

Representing Grenada is a three-member delegation, headed by NaDMA Coordinator, Dr. Terrence Walters, also including Red Cross President, Samantha Dickson, and Head of Immigration, Elyan Purcell.

At the opening, Head of Secretariat Platform on

Disaster Displacement Atle Solberg acknowledged the need for the meeting of the minds in the strengthening of existing practices.
