CARNIVAL 2020, THE NATION’S workforce was on the job and that’s due to the cancellation of the festivity this year on account of COVID-19.

It’s the first time in 41 years, after the overthrow of the Eric Gairy Regime, that a carnival has been canceled in Grenada. So, a great percentage of workers reported for duty.

Culture Minister, Norlan Cox, issued a statement last week, justifying reasons for the decision taken to put off the August festivity this year.

In explaining the reasons for the cancellation of carnival the Prime Minister had earlier made an address noting the economic implications that emerged due to the coronavirus’ lockdown measures, as well as health considerations.

As it relates to the situation, Dr. Keith Mitchell had stated and I quote “We cannot continue that mindset of free time; I don’t think it’s right. I don’t enjoy telling people that we have to forego the Monday holiday, half-day Tuesday, but hopefully next year we [are]going to have a bumper time”….. “We better be safe than sorry,” he said as he justified the cancellation of carnival 2020.
