The Government of Grenada in collaboration with the Chinese Mission under phase 8 of the Grenada/China Technical Agricultural Cooperation is said to be preparing to commission a new Tissue Culture Laboratory, aimed at enhancing tissue culture operations at Propagation Stations island-wide.
It’s reported that approximately 700, 000 dollars was invested in the Construction and outfitting of the Laboratory, located at the Mirabeau Propagation Station.
The joint venture is geared at increasing the potential for the propagation of large quantities of plantlets of local root and staple crops that can boost local production, simply by increasing the
amount of high-quality planting material in a short time.
The Government of Grenada says it’s committed to meeting set targets and obligations under the CARICOM 25 by 25 initiative, aimed at reducing food importation in the region by 25% by the year 2025.
It’s in accordance with the (OECS FAST Strategy”, endorsed by Grenada and other OECS member countries, as an urgent action plan to promote food security, self-reliance, and agricultural
development in the region.
