It’s World Environment Day today, the biggest international Day for the Environment set out by the United Nations since 1972.

It must also be noted that the Treaty of Chagaramus establishing the Caribbean Community will observe its 50th year celebration this year, especially as it concerns integration, cooperation and development and sustainable  sustainable management of the environment

The theme for the 2023 Environmental Day observance is “Solutions to plastic pollution”…”Plastic pollution” one of the most pressing environmental challenges of all time.

CARICOM is said to be supporting its member states in developing and implementing national policies and legislation to address plastic pollution and promote sustainable development.

Several CARICOM countries, including Grenada have already banned or restricted single-use plastics and styrofoam products.

UN Secretary General, Antonio Gutterres, warns about the harmful nature of plastics to the environment.
