We learnt lately that the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and the (OECS) have signed a renewed Partnership Agreement, which will directly impact the lives of children and young people across the sub-region.
The agreement supports the OECS Human and Social Development Strategy, focusing on key areas aligned with the missions of both UNICEF and the OECS, in Child Protection, Social Protection, Inclusive Education, Youth Engagement, as well as Climate and Resilience.
OECS Director General, Dr. Didacus Jules, sees the partnership being distinct, with active discussions and engagement on concepts, ideas, and experiences that enrich both organizations.
UNICEF Representative for the Eastern Caribbean, Pieter Bult, says the partnership with the OECS is invaluable.
He highlighted the need to make the sub-region more effective, especially in areas of joint interest, and for both teams to work closer together on planning and implementing projects.
Bult says there’s much work to be done, especially as it surrounds the increasing rate of child-poverty post-COVID-19, and the need to focus on Early Children Education.
