Unions Hopeful Of Justice In Pension Restoration Matter

Union representatives and members of different sectors of the spectrum were out in their numbers today, rallying on the eve of a court matter in their continued plea for Pension Restoration.

The court matter will be held virtually to be presided over by Justice Agnes Actia.

The Unions say they’re seeking justice for workers they represent, and, the rally at the Tanteen playing field today, was among efforts issuing calls on the Grenadian Government to pay their members.

Public Workers Union (PWU) President, Brian Grimes, says the unions are hopeful that justice will be served.

Prior to the rally at Tanteen playing field, the Unions and its corresponding members took to the streets alerting the public to the plight of the workers demanding pension restoration.

This was the atmosphere earlier today in the town of St. George as Unions march for the restoration of their pension and gratuity.

Hundreds of workers clad in their Red t-shirts and blowing horns marched from the National Stadium to the Tanteen playing field, where the rally was held and various speakers took to the microphone to air their grievances.

The thorny issue of pension restoration to public officers is now at the forefront again.

It’s believed that a High Court judge has already ruled on a similar matter that the purported removal of benefits to public officers are null and void and unconstitutional, which eventually opens the door for unions representing public sector workers to lay a claim for payments on behalf of their membership.
