The US State Department has notified Congress that it plans to close five U.S. diplomatic missions overseas, Grenada included, marking a rare reduction in America’s global diplomatic footprint.
It’s been a discussion in political circles for quite some time and we hear that the notice was sent to congressional committees late last week.
The closures will likely affect U.S. posts in St. George’s, Grenada; Nagoya Japan; Medan Indonesia; Douala Cameroon; and Winnipeg Canada.
Several news agencies have published information relative to the prospective closures.
The move revives an effort first pursued during the Trump administration, when officials considered closing nearly a dozen diplomatic missions as part of a broader push to reshape the federal government under an & “America First” agenda.
Upon, receiving this information, we contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here, where it was reported that they have not received any notice to the effect.
