PRย โ The Government of Grenada, through its Governmentย Information Service (GIS), has entered into a landmark partnership with UWItv Global, the official public information arm of The University of the West Indies (The UWI). This strategic alliance aims toย enhance media collaboration and strengthen regional communication efforts.
The partnership was formally established on February 21, 2024, with the signing of a Memorandum ofย Understanding (MOU) during the 48th Regular Meeting of the CARICOM Heads, held in Barbados. The agreement was signed by Grenadaโs Prime Minister and Minister of Information, Honourableย Dickon Mitchell, and Vice-Chancellor of the UWI, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles.
Speaking on this momentous occasion, Vice-Chancellor Beckles highlighted the pivotal role of UWItvย in amplifying Caribbean voices:ย โUWI is unique in having a 24/7 educational channel dedicated toย Caribbean people and culture while engaging with the world. I am especially proud that UWItv is responsible for covering these types of government meetings annually, disseminating content worldwideย to international networks. We are honoured to play this role in serving the Government of Grenada.โย
Prime Minister, Hon. Dickon Mitchell also emphasised the benefits of this collaboration:ย โThe opportunity for the Government Information Service to collaborate and benefit from Theย University of the West Indies and UWItv is a natural and welcome relationship. UWItv Global is a leading multimedia platform that broadcasts across 20 countries, includingย Panama and Latin America, reaching over 5 million viewers through FLOW, the regionโs foremost telecommunications provider. This partnership reinforces Grenadaโs commitment toย media excellence, knowledge-sharing, and public education, aligning with broader Caribbeanย development initiatives.
By combining UWItvโs academic and technological resources with GISโs expertise in public broadcasting, this collaboration enhances the regionโs media capacity while fostering a deeperย understanding of key socio-economic and cultural issues.
