The Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Unit within the Ministry of Social Development today staged a one-day Media and Influencer Retreat aimed at strengthening how gender-based violence is discussed and addressed across the country.
The retreat, held under the theme, “The Power We Hold: Reframing, Respecting, Responding,” brought together media professionals, influencers, content creators, and business representatives.
The initiative was interactive for participants to deepen their understanding of gender-based violence, strengthen their communication practices, and develop partnerships to support national prevention and awareness efforts.
Organizers say the growing visibility of GBV conversations across traditional and digital media makes it increasingly important for communicators to share information responsibly, ethically and accurately.
Particular emphasis was placed on survivor-centered and trauma- informed communication, which can help encourage victims and survivors to seek support, challenge harmful social norms, and promote messages of safety, respect and equality.
