Opposition Leader Calls On Government To Do Something About The Cost Of Construction Material

Opposition leader, Tobias Clement, today made a plea for a reduction in the cost of construction material.

With the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to wreak havoc the world over, the cost of construction material has risen drastically.

Opening debate on the 1.352 billion-dollar Budget, which was presented last Friday by Finance Minister, Gregory Bowen, Clement appealed to the Government for something to be done, so that the construction sector will not suffer.

He suggested that the VAT on such items could be reduced.

The opposition leader says if things continue the way they are now, a number of businesses will be forced to close, as he highlighted the plight of one supplier who engaged him recently.

In the presentation of the Budget last Friday, the Finance Minister spoke of several areas of relief, especially the introduction of measures to curb the rising cost of electricity and gasoline, and the prices of some kitchen-centred commodities.

He had outlined that the Budget entailed key developments for the country’s economic recovery, which was jolted by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

But, the Opposition leader called the Budget deceptive and therefore cannot support it.

The Opposition Leader’s contribution was disrupted on two occasions this morning for what’s been said was internet issues.
