Two extension officers at the Ministry of Agriculture have been recognized by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) for their participation in a 4-part exercise which aims to “Strengthen the Climate Resilience of Caribbean Agriculture”.

On the basis of this, the two extension officers, Marcia

Lord and Brenda Phillip, were this week afforded tools that will be used in their fieldwork (tape lines and an A-Frame) from IICA’s National Specialist, Derek Charles.

REPORT:

At the series of programmes that commenced in 2015, farmers, agri-stakeholders and enthusiasts were engaged in sharing, learning, planning, and promoting policies, strategies, and actions towards a more productive, low emission, sustainable agriculture.

The two Grenadian extension officers have pledged to put the tools received into good use, noting that the IICA fora was timely and informative.

The Grenadian’s participation in the IICA exercises have been regarded as splendid and qualified for the prizes as a result of full participation in all sessions.

There was also active participation in discussions on key climate issues, and practical adaptation and mitigation approaches that can be implemented.

The IICA representative noted that Charles said it was a job well done by the officers and “Grenada did well”.

Out of the fifty-one participants, eleven were Grenadians.

All participants received certificates of participation.
