The Government of Grenada is pleased to announce the successfulย payment of the pension and gratuity by November 30, 2022, as promised. As of Novemberย 15, 2022, the first tranche of payments was made to over three hundred (300) retirees, in theย amount of $44.1 million.
The payment of these long overdue benefits symbolises Governmentโs dedication to itsย transformation agenda that seeks to empower its people, make good on commitments to citizensย and be transparent in its governance of the country.
Importantly, the retroactive payments also demonstrate our ability, as a country, to satisfactorilyย address our challenges, as difficult as they may be, once we set clear goals and work towardsย achieving them.
Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Hon. Dickon Mitchell, expressed, on behalf of theย Government, profound appreciation to the employees at the Ministry of Finance, including theย Accountant Generalโs Department; Ms. Tonia Adams and her team at the Pension Secretariat; and the Audit Department for their stellar work in ensuring that the deadline for payment of theย pension and gratuity was met.
The Pension Secretariat continues to work assiduously to ensure that all eligibleย applicants are processed on or before November 30, 2022. To facilitate the timely payment ofย benefits, the Secretariat is urging all approved applicants, who have not yet done so, to pleaseย submit Life Certificates and banking information.
In total, the Ministry of Finance anticipates a payout of $75 million to 525 eligible retirees.
The Government wishes to counsel all recipients of the pension and gratuity to ensure that the funds are used wisely to their benefit.
