GRENADA OBSERVES WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY

Today Grenada joined the rest of the World in celebrating “World Down Syndrome Day” as a show of solidarity and respect for people with “Down Syndrome”.

“Down Syndrome” is considered the result of a genetic disorder, and for at least 95% of persons affected; there are three copies of the 21st chromosome instead of two.

On March 21 every year individuals demonstrate their appreciation of the uniqueness and individuality of people with Down syndrome.

The intention is to convey that people with disabilities also have the right to be treated fairly and have the same opportunities as everyone else.

In accordance with this year’s theme: “With Us Not for Us”, the ministry of education is celebrating together with people with Down syndrome.
