Prime Minister, Honourable Dickon Mitchell is attending the Fifty-First Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) being held in Saint Lucia from July 5–8, 2026.
The meeting, which is being convened under the theme “CARICOM: From Resilience to Renewal in a Changing World,” brings together regional leaders to address critical issues affecting the sustainable development, security and prosperity of the Caribbean Community.
The Fifty-First Regular Meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre of Saint Lucia, who assumed the Chairmanship of CARICOM on July 1, 2026.
Among the major issues to be discussed by Heads of Government are:
- Climate Change and Climate Financing, including strategies to increase access to international climate finance, build resilience to climate impacts, and support sustainable development across Small Island Developing States.
- Advancing the CARICOM Agri-Food Systems Agenda, with emphasis on strengthening regional food and nutrition security, increasing agricultural production, reducing dependence on imported food, expanding intra-regional trade, and improving resilience to global supply chain disruptions.
- Regional Health Security and Preparedness for Emerging Public Health Threats, including coordinated responses to future health emergencies, strengthening public health systems, and enhancing regional cooperation
Additional discussions are expected to focus on regional security, economic integration through the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), foreign and community relations and the situation in Haiti and Cuba.
The opening ceremony will feature remarks from:
- Hon. Dr. Terrance M. Drew Outgoing Chair of CARICOM and Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis
- Dr. Carla Barnett Secretary-General, CARICOM
- Mr. Rahym Augustin-Joseph Youth Leader and Saint Lucia Commonwealth Caribbean Rhodes Scholar Special Guests at the Fifty-First Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government
include;
- H.E. Adel Al-Jubeir Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
- Dr. George Elombi President and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Afreximbank
- Hon. Shirley Botchwey Secretary-General, Commonwealth Secretariat
- H.E. Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, United Arab Emirates
Accompanying Prime Minister Mitchell at the meeting are Hon. Joseph Andall, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Export Development, and Grenada’s Ambassador to CARICOM, Aaron Moses.
In the Prime Minister’s absence, Hon. Dennis Cornwall, Minister for Finance, will serve as Acting Prime Minister until Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
